The Strand Theatre of Shreveport

Dubbed “the Million Dollar Theatre” when it opened in 1925, the 1,536-seat Strand Theatre in downtown Shreveport is the Official State Theatre of Louisiana. This grand Vaudeville palace, recognized as one of the glitziest entertainment venues in the South, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The building boasts a rare, 939-pipe Robert Morton pipe organ, a grand staircase, and dazzling chandeliers—including a massive, 14-foot-tall main chandelier—as well as six breathtaking murals portraying the “Muses of The Strand.” The Strand operated as a movie house until the mid-1970s, when ABC-Paramount Pictures donated the building to a nonprofit formed for the purpose of restoring the venue to its former glory. It reopened as a performing arts center in 1984 and continues to host a year-round schedule of touring Broadway shows, concerts, and plays.

The Strand Theatre is located just steps from several other jewels of Shreveport Common including Andress Artist and Entrepreneur Center, Central ARTSTATION, and Caddo Common Park.
