Critical MASS is the Shreveport Regional Arts Council's annual Invitational Exhibition for all artists who reside or own property in the nine parishes of Northwest Louisiana: Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, and Webster.  The exhibition showcases professional and emerging artists across Visual, Literary, and Performing Arts disciplines, with designated Critics providing formal review in each category.  Critics' Choice award winners receive a $5,000 prize—$2,500 as the award and $2,500 as a commission to produce a solo presentation with at least 50% new work in Spring/Summer 2027.

All applicants must hold an active listing on the NWLA Culturalyst Artist Directory at the time of submission.  Artists may submit work in more than one discipline but are limited to one work per discipline.  All submitted works must be original, created within the last 24 months, and not previously exhibited or presented at artspace or Central ARTSTATION.  

Works created using generative artificial intelligence tools—in whole or in part—are not eligible.  For questions about eligibility or the application process, contact Wren at wren@shrevearts.org.

All applications are due by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.  Visual artwork must be delivered to artspace, 708 Texas Street, between Saturday, June 6 and Friday, June 12.  A midday Literary Reading will be held at Caddo Common Park on Wednesday, June 24.  The Performance Showcase takes place Thursday, June 25, at the Engine Room at Central ARTSTATION, with the Opening Reception and Awards on Friday, June 26, at artspace.”
